Decanda M. Faulk, Esq., is a practicing attorney since 1997 with a concentration in health law and compliance. She has worked for several law firms, corporations, academic institutions as well as a teaching hospital. Ms. Faulk attributes the success of Faulk & Associates to her in depth knowledge of the United States healthcare industry’s legal and regulatory schemes.
Ms. Faulk is licensed to practice law in New Jersey and New York. She is a graduate of Rutgers School of Law-Newark where she co-developed the Health Law curriculum and served as an adjunct professor teaching Health Law courses. Ms. Faulk received her undergraduate degree from Rutgers University College of Nursing and has over a decade of experience as a critical care nurse. She has served as a Hearing Officer for Essex County, New Jersey and received formal training as a peer review hearing officer from the American Health Lawyers Association where she was also listed with the Alternative Dispute Resolution Services that offers health care clients mediators to resolve disputes.
Ms. Faulk is the Past Chair (2003-2004) and board member (1999-2005) of the New Jersey State Bar Association’s Health and Hospital Law Section (Co-editor, Newsletter (1999-2000) and Board Secretary). She has also held numerous board and officer positions with various organizations and served a two-year term (2004-2006) on the New Jersey State Bar Association’s Legislative Committee. She served on Newark Mayor-Elect Ras Baraka's Public Health Committee Transition Team (2014), New Jersey Governor Jon Corzine’s 2006 Health Care and Senior Policy Issues’ Transition Team, Newark Mayor Cory Booker’s 2006 Health Care Services Transition Team, and The Sharing Network’s New Jersey Organ Donation Task Force (2003). Among other honors and recognitions, Ms. Faulk was recognized as a New Jersey Superlawyers Rising Star (2006), Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. Theta Phi Sigma Alumnae Chapter Woman of Distinction (2006) and YMCA’s of New Jersey, New Jersey Minority Achiever (2003). Ms. Faulk is an international published author and frequent lecturer on health care and legal issues impacting the health care and pharmaceutical industries. More recently, her work has involved global health initiatives, including HIV/AIDS and Substance Abuse in the Sub-Saharan Africa region and monitoring and evaluation of programs that are oriented at combating these growing epidemics worldwide.
As a health care industry professional with experiences that traverse the full gamut of the provider, payer and drug manufacturer segments, Ms. Faulk’s health care interests and employment history spans throughout the United States and into Africa, Europe, Dubai, Central America and India. Her industry experience includes medical coding, critical care nursing, utilization review, quality assurance, and provider credentialing while her legal practice includes health law, food and drug law, regulatory compliance, privacy, and contracting. Ms. Faulk’s twenty-five year career spans world-class enterprises, multi-national organizations and entrepreneurial ventures in which she serves as a trusted advisor to managers and leadership teams on a broad array of matters.
Her impressive track record of successful contract negotiation and risk management, including managing organizational interactions among legal, compliance, human resources, operations and technology departments to improve organizational efficiencies has resulted in clients achieving measurable business solutions, including cost-savings and compliance metrics. Her representation includes hospitals, health systems, physicians, long term care facilities, home care agencies, pharmaceutical and contract manufacturers, universities, professional organizations, BPOs, non-profit and non-governmental organizations
